Change the Material Class Assignments

You can change the material class definitions in MineSched using the Material Class Assignments spreadsheet.

When you define material classes in the Material Class Assignments spreadsheet, the assignments replace the value for the material classes defined by the material class attribute. This is useful if you have assigned material classes based on economic parameters when the schedule was originally created and want to redefine the material classes based on a change in the economic conditions at a later date.

Notes:

  • The replacement of values for the material class attribute is in the working memory only when the schedule is run. The values in the material class attribute of the block model are not overwritten.
  • You must redefine material classes so that all blocks are captured by the new definitions. For example, if you redefine your ore to have a higher value for the lower limit, you must also define your waste to have a higher upper limit so that the blocks that are no longer assigned to ore are now assigned to waste.
  • You cannot apply material class cutoffs to the material classes if the material class attribute is a calculated attribute.

Change the Material Class Assignments

  1. In the Define Geology > Models tab, in the Material classes data grid, identify the material classes that you want to change.
  2. In the Spreadsheets menu, click Enable Spreadsheet Views, and select Material Class Cutoffs.
  3. Select the tab that contains the Material Class Assignments spreadsheet:
    • If you are using a Surface scenario, select the Setup Schedule > Locations tab.
    • If you are using an Underground scenario, select the Stockpiles subtab of the Setup Schedule > Locations tab.
    • If you are using a Surface and Underground scenario, select the select the Surfaces subtab of the Setup Schedule > Locations tab.
  4. Click the Cutoffs tab in the lower left corner of the 2D Canvas.
  5. The Material Class Assignments spreadsheet appears.

  6. For each material class to which you want to assign cutoffs:
    1. In the Active? column, select yes.
    2. In the Mining Location Names column, select the mining locations for which you want the new cutoffs to apply.
    3. In the Material Class Name column, select the material class for which you want to define the cutoffs.
    4. In the Quality Attribute Name column, select the quality on which you want to base the new material class assignment.
    5. In the Minimum Value column, select the minimum value for the quality for the material class.
    6. In the Maximum Value column, select the maximum value for the quality for the material class.
    7. In the Effective Date column, enter the date at which you want the material class assignment to be applied.
    8. Note: You can change the material class cutoffs multiple times throughout the schedule by defining different cutoffs for the same material class with different effective dates.

    9. If you want to add any constraints to the material class definition, use the Constraining Attribute Name, Constraining Operator, and Constraining Value columns or the Additional Constraining File column to define the constraints using attributes and values or using a GEOVIA Surpac constraints file.
